Arnhem-based HyET Solar has developed a breakthrough technology for the production of solar panels. Our cost-efficient production method of lightweight flexible PV foil on rolls enables many new applications and leads to greatly reduced installation costs. Examples of applications include integration into roof and wall panels, covering vaulted roofs and movable panels on canvas. HyET Solar now produces with a roll-to-roll production line in Arnhem will start building a scaled-up plant for large-scale production next year.

As the Machine Concepts R&D Engineer, you will be part of the Machine Concepts and Upscaling sub-team of the Technology team, which is tasked with developing machine concepts for roll-to-roll thin film PV upscaled factories. The base for the development is our current roll-to-roll thin film PV factory in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The machine concepts will be developed in close collaboration with various equipment suppliers, who will be responsible for the actual design. You responsibility will mainly involve experimentally testing the feasibility of the technology concepts on current existing tools both internally and externally.

As a Research & Development Engineer, your main responsibilities are to:

  • You will design experimental setups to test scaled-up machine concepts;
  • You perform calculations to simulate machine concepts;
  • You are responsible for validating the feasibility of concepts based on experiments and/or simulations.

The key considerations in these scale-up concepts are:

  • Productivity
  • Uptime
  • Yield
  • Usability
  • Safety

The technologies involved are various thin film deposition processes such as atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition, plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition as physical vapor deposition, as well as laser, lamination and wet chemical processes.

your profile

To get started as a Research & Development it is important to have the following:

  • MSc. in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or Physics;
  • You have at least 5 years of working experience in manufacturing (especially tool commissioning and testing);
  • You have sound knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and machine design;
  • You are a quick learner and curious about how things work;
  • You are a creative, out of the box thinker, but are also able to make decisive choices;
  • You have strong analytical, communication and reporting skills;
  • You have a positive/critical attitude and can be flexible;
  • You have a hands on approach, are self-driven and have a strong sense of initiative;
  • You can work comfortably in a fast-paced environment;
  • You enjoy working in a team-oriented and pragmatic manner;
  • You speak and write fluently English.
